2014 Carnegie Center 5K and Fun Run for The Parkinson Alliance Raised Over $105,000—Proceeds to go to Parkinson’s Research

5K and Fun Run in Princeton, NJ raised awareness and funds for Parkinson’s disease research

(Kingston, NJ, November 4, 2014)
The Parkinson Alliance announced today that the 15th Carnegie Center 5K and Fun Run (CC5K) raised over $105,000—net proceeds will go to Parkinson’s disease research.  The event was held on Saturday, September 27, 2014, in Princeton’s Carnegie Center and brought together over 900 registered runners and the Central Jersey community to raise funds and awareness to support Parkinson’s research.
Exemplified by this year’s total number of participants and funds raised, this is the most successful CC5K for The Parkinson Alliance thus far.  The Parkinson Alliance attributes the event’s success to its supporters.  “Family and friends, as well as corporate teams came together to raise awareness and funding to support research for better treatments and hopefully one day, a cure.  While their presence was felt on Race Day, teams also worked months prior.  Registered participants reached out to their family and friends and enlisted them to register/donate,” explains Martin Tuchman, Chairman of The Parkinson Alliance.

Carol Walton, Chief Executive Officer of The Parkinson Alliance adds that, “We are also thankful to sponsors who allow event proceeds to go to research.  The 2014 CC5K was supported by 44 sponsors, including Boston Properties who serves as the host of our event.”

On Race Day, The Parkinson Alliance presented Team “For the Love of Lulu” with the King Award, for their longstanding support of the event.  Their family has been dedicated to the CC5K for the past 14 years.  The King Award recognizes a group’s dedication and commitment to the Parkinson’s community and was created in memory of Joseph G. Fennelly, a generous philanthropist and long term volunteer of The Parkinson Alliance.

Walton also remarks that, “There is no other fundraiser for Parkinson’s disease research like ours in the area of Princeton.”  In addition to uniting residents and businesses to work together on behalf of the Parkinson’s community, the CC5K offers a 5K race sanctioned by the USA Track & Field (USATF).  While the 5K road race is the main attraction, participants can also join the one mile fun run.  Additional race festivities include activities for the entire family, refreshments, door prizes, and awards to top runners and teams.

The date is set for the 16th CC5K—it will be held on Saturday, September 26, 2015.  For event updates, runners are encouraged to sign up for email alerts on or call 800-579-8440.
