This research will provide information concerning dopaminergic control of glutamatergic functioning in the striatum, an area of primary dysfunction in PD. These studies will lay the groundwork for future investigations of dopamine/glutamate interactions as they pertain to the control of substantia nigra functioning. In addition, this information should be of use in the development of improvements in or alternatives to dopamine replacement therapy.
