Shake, Rattle & Hole
September 23, 2003
More than 144 golfers participated in the second annual Shake, Rattle & Hole golf fundraiser for Parkinson's disease research sponsored by Young Parkinson's of Indiana. The fundraiser was held on Tuesday, September 23, on the east side of Indianapolis, Indiana. Sunny, blue skies shined over the much-sought-after 18-hole golf course at The Fort Golf Resort at Fort Harrison in Lawrence, Indiana. The course, located on a mostly-retired Army base, was previously open only to military and governmental personnel.
The golfers were in awe at the Jeep Grand Cherokee SUV available for the hole-in-one contest. The $10,000 putting contest peaked the interest of many a golfer. Other contests included men and women's longest drive and longest putt. Everyone received a box lunch, event t-shirt, and other goodies before heading to the shotgun start at noon. The course was a beautiful, winding, hilly, wooded course. Deer were often seen grazing near the woods.
After returning from the course, golfers exchanged golfing tales during the hospitality hour on the patio overlooking the luscious green course. A buffet-style chicken and ribs dinner awaited the group after the hospitality hour.
Donated items ranging from a golf bag to golf balls were given away in a drawing held that evening. A $1,000 woman's watch was sold through a raffle and a football personally autographed by Brett Favre of the Green Bay Packers was sold in an auction.
The music entertainment began immediately following the awards. The Alligator Brothers featuring Henry Lee Summer, a very well known Indiana rock band, entertained the group who danced and rocked - or should we say shook and rattled - the night away.
