Pedal For Parkinson's
May 19, 2001
Donna Kos of Akron, Ohio began riding her bike across the country to raise money for a cure after she lost her father to Parkinson's disease. The event was called "Parkinson's Power Across America" and took place February 28-May 7 of 1999.
While doing a bike tour in the summer of '96, Donna thought that the idea of having a coast-to-coast bike trek would raise public awareness about Parkinson's disease and also serve as a major fundraiser for increased research. "I didn't know it then, but I was about to become an advocate for increased visibility and understanding of this disease."
This year Donna organized a one-day event in Lorraine County, Ohio that she calls "Pedal for Parkinsons." Riders biked along the Lorain County Metroparks bikepath in Oberlin. Among the riders participating were 3 generations of the Kos Family.
