Pages for Parkinson's Rebekah Clark of Orem, Utah decided to organize a read-a-thon after her dad, age 45, was diagnosed with Parkinson's disease. Last year my mom and I began to talk about some sort of activity that could increase awareness of Parkinson's disease and also raise some sort of money for research, said Rebekah, but the opportunity never arose until this spring when I decided to use Parkinson's Awareness as my platform as I competed for the Miss Orem title. Although she did not become Miss Orem, Rebekah is one of her attendants and continues to educate others on the challenges of Parkinson's disease. Through the experience, I found a base of people who have relatives or loved ones who suffer with Parkinson's and I also found a constructive way to work towards a solution for a problem that seems overwhelming to my family at times. |
