Team Parkinson Raises Close to $10,000 at the MaraFunRun at the California International Marathon.

"One Face of Parkinson's"

On Sunday, December 5, 2004 well over 60 People with Parkinson's, their families and friends braved the cold but sunny morning to participate in the MaraFunRun at the California International Marathon. It was a beautiful sight.

Clowns in full regalia under the auspices of our own Board member Gene Luttrell, the Kaiser Klown, Mr. Bumbles, cheered us on. People with Parkinson's who hadn't challenged themselves in quite awhile were out there determined to put one foot in front of the other, for themselves and to show Parkinson's who is still in charge.

Loved ones of all ages, shapes and sizes woke up on the cold, dark morning, bundled up and made their way to 9th and Capitol in Sacramento. Some who couldn't get there for a variety of reasons sent in donations from their friends, families, business associates and just about everyone else they came in contact with these last few months. Our first ever Parkinson walk, as part of one of the world's great marathons, should make each and every one of you very proud. It was a humbling experience seeing such determination.

The wonderful and dedicated Edna and John Ball of the Los Angeles area joined us. John has PD and next spring will run his 10th annual Los Angeles marathon. They are the guiding lights of Team Parkinson, the organization receiving the funds we raised—close to $10,000! 100% of all net proceeds raised are going to research.

So, thank you all. Congratulations to each of you who, in some way made this first Team Parkinson/Sacramento walk a great success. You are an inspiration.
