Enjoying the sunshine and blue skies, over 300 runners, walkers, and volunteers participated in the Saturday, October 5, 2002, Carnegie Center 5K & Fun Run at 101 Carnegie Center in West Windsor Township, New Jersey to raise money for Parkinson's disease research.
A one-mile Fun Run was held for youngsters, some parentsand even a couple dogs joined the fun. Justin Thieke made it through the finish line first, and Erin Shevlin was the first little girl to follow.
At last year's event, The Parkinson Alliance promised to donate 25% of the net proceeds raised to the September 11, 2001 Disaster Relief Fund. After much research and careful consideration, the Alliance decided that this money would go to the Todd M. Beamer Foundation. In honor of Todd Beamer, and the other heros of United Flight 93, Todd's family and friends established the Foundation to carry on his legacy of character, faith, and courage to a new generation of young people. For more information about the Foundation, visit its website at www.beamerfoundation.org. Prior to the 5K race commencing, Race Director Jerry Fennelly presented Bill Beatty, Chief Financial Officer from the Foundation, with a check for $8,500. The 5K race then began.
The men's winner was Rich Bostwick (his time will follow), and Jessica Aisenbrey was the women's winner with a time of 20:08.
After the race, enthusiastic volunteers worked hard serving a spread of drinks, snacks and pizza for the runners to enjoy. American Flag bandanas were distributed for runners to wear, and t-shirts were given away.
