We appreciate your support of The Parkinson Alliance. Your continued commitment to the Parkinson’s community has brought us closer to our goal of ending Parkinson’s disease.
As you know, like many non-profit organizations, the impact of the pandemic and an unstable economy has made it increasingly difficult to operate. It is for this reason that after careful consideration and thoughtful discussions with staff and Board of Directors and volunteers, we will be closing our doors on April 30, 2023.
We are so grateful for the difference that you and everyone who has been part of The Parkinson Alliance has made in the lives of people living with Parkinson’s disease. Together, we have made significant achievements.
Since our founding in 1999, we’ve supported the development of new therapies and improved the quality of life for those living with the disease through patient centered research and resources—and we could not have done all of this without you.
We have completed over 35 patient centered research reports covering both motor and non-motor symptoms. These reports had over 26,000 survey responses. We believe this type of education and giving the person with Parkinson’s disease a voice is so important. Therefore, we will be collaborating with another Parkinson’s organization that also has the same values and objectives for our community.
The Parkinson Alliance supported over one hundred research projects covering major issues such as gait and balance; gut and the microbiome; genetics; disease modifying therapies; and many projects on exercise. In addition, we convened an International DBS Consensus Conference with neurosurgeons and movement disorder doctors from around the world with the outcomes being published in the International Movement Disorder Journal.
The Parkinson Alliance began managing the Parkinson’s Unity Walk in 2001 and continued its mission to support essential research and ultimately find a cure to end Parkinson’s disease where one hundred percent of funds went directly to research funded by four major U.S. Parkinson’s disease organizations. In September of 2022, to meet the growing scale of the Unity Walk’s mission and reach more people impacted by Parkinson’s disease, the Board of Directors made the decision to transfer the production, execution, and ownership of the Parkinson’s Unity Walk to The Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research (MJFF).
Together, The Parkinson Alliance and Parkinson’s Unity Walk raised more than $34 million to support essential research and ultimately find a cure to end Parkinson’s disease. We should all be proud of our accomplishments.
The Parkinson Alliance is no longer accepting donations. We sincerely hope that you’ll continue your involvement in the Parkinson’s community by connecting with other reputable organizations that support research and patient programs. Below are just a few:
